This image was created using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe illustrator. I first drew the image as line art in Adobe Illustrator. Then I applied a brush stroke to each line giving it the ‘brushed’ effect you see in the final image above. I then brought the line art into Adobe Photoshop as a smart layer so I could resize as needed. Once comfortable with the composition I then converted the art to an alpha layer so I could just have the ‘line art’ on its own layer thereby being able to paint color in behind it.

The painting was done using an airbrushed and bristle brush alternately. I then duplicated the painted layer and converted the bottom most to noise. The combination gave a soft even color while still adding the interest of ‘paint spatter’. A simple technique that allows the image and message to stand out solidly above the art.

This drawing was created using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. It is based on a book by Antoinette Portis and was requested by Teach Preschool to wish their audience a happy Easter holiday.

I started the work in Adobe Illustrator by drawing basic shapes with the pen tool. I then applied a brush stroke to the lines – the brush stroke is part of the art pack that comes with Illustrator. I adjusted the stroke thickness to get the appropriate proportions of width to line length as well as in proportion to the overall size of the drawing.  Finally I set the type in Illustrator trying to be faithful to the artwork in Antoinette Portis’s books.
